Merrilyn Goos

Is a Professor of Education at The University of Queensland. She has worked in mathematics education for over 20 years as a teacher, teacher educator, and researcher. Her research has investigated secondary school students’ learning, teaching approaches that promote higher order thinking, mathematics teachers’ learning and development, numeracy education across the curriculum, family-school partnerships in numeracy education, and school reform. She has had a long involvement with professional associations and mathematics curriculum development, having served as Vice-President of the Queensland Association of Mathematics Teachers and Chair of the Queensland Studies Authority’s Mathematics Syllabus Advisory Committee. She is currently President of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia. Merrilyn was born and grew up in Ipswich, Queensland, where her extended family has lived for six generations. She lives with her husband in semi-rural Redlands, on the south-eastern outskirts of Brisbane.
