This sequence of learning in Partitioning from Stages 1–27 includes fractions, decimals and percentages.

Focus/Goal of unit:

To develop the halving, thirding, quartering and fifthing strategies by partitioning continuous quantities.
To develop an understanding of how to name and record fractions in the oral and written (formal) way.
To develop an understanding of, and have the ability to, add and subtract fractions with common denominators.
To develop an understanding of equivalent fractions, how to simplify fractions and how to find the lowest common denominator.
To develop an understanding of, and the ability to use the decimal system and understand the connection between decimals and common fractions.
To develop and understand the concept that a percentage is a fraction of hundredths represented in another form.
