Dr Chris Hurst is a lecturer in the Primary Bachelor of Education program at Curtin University, lecturing in professional practice, curriculum and mathematics education. He has had extensive classroom experience in both government and independent primary schools and has presented at mathematics education and research conferences for many years. He is a member of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia (MERGA) and received the Early Career Researcher Award in 2007. As well, he has been keenly involved in professional learning programs for primary teachers. Chris completed his MEd in the area of maths confidence and maths anxiety, an area in which he is keen to do further research. His PhD thesis was about primary students’ numeracy development and connecting mathematical knowledge to a range of contexts. His current research interests include the links between language and mathematics, and maths anxiety. Chris is excited to be involved in the Make It Count project and believes that it represents a real opportunity to make a difference for Indigenous students. |
